PM Does Not Want Sorn Dara's Family to Face the Consequences of His Actions

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has stated that he does not want Sorn Dara's family to have to face the consequences of his arrogance.

During the graduation ceremony for students of the National Institute of Education on Tuesday morning, 25 April 2023, the Prime Minister warned that he would remove Sorn Darn’s parents and sister-in-law from their government office positions if he did not stay in line.

"If your parents do not discipline you, I will remove them, including your brothers and sisters, from all their jobs, so do not be too rude," he said.

Sorn Dara is an opposition activist who has been using his social media platforms to attack the government and the Prime Minister's family.

Sorn Dara's younger brother, Sorn Sarath, on 23 February, sent a message to the Prime Minister notifying him that he had long cut ties with his brother, especially after Sorn Dara made insults directed at the King, the Royal Government, the Prime Minister and his family.

In Sorn Sarath’s video, he says that he cut off contact with his brother because he feared it would harm his personal profession. He said that he had tried to speak with his brother and educate him, but instead, he refused.

The Prime Minister sent a message through his official Telegram channel on Tuesday morning saying that he did not wish to see Sorn Dara's family suffering because of his wrongdoings.

The Prime Minister wrote, "I do not want them to be victims of this childish act and I do not want to hold them hostage over this.”

Sorn Dara is a 44-year-old Professor of Philosophy and anti-government activist who fled abroad and continues to make videos attacking the Royal Government of Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen and Lt. Gen. Hun Manet. He also has a father who works as a military officer in Cambodia.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that people like Sorn Dara often have a lot of pride in their intellect, but he questions whether Sorn Dara and other opposition members actually have the knowledge to defeat him, because they have never been able to win until now.
