Tesla Leads the Way for Electric Cars

INTERNATIONAL: Electric cars are becoming increasingly common around the world, and Tesla is leading the industry transition. The world’s most valuable carmaker released its quarterly earnings on Monday, beating Wall Street expectations on the back of record deliveries, despite the impact from a prolonged global shortage of raw materials.

In spite of that, Tesla was able to post record deliveries during the second quarter of 2021, although it relied heavily on the sales of its cheaper models. The carmaker, led by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, said revenue rose to $11.96 billion from $6.04 billion a year earlier, but while more and more car companies like Volvo and Volkswagen are slowly shifting towards electric vehicles, there are still doubts as to whether these are really greener than regular gas-fueled cars.

A Reuters analysis of data from one model suggests that you have to drive for about 20,000 kms before your electric car is actually beneficial for the environment. What is certain is that times are a changing, and innovation is coming. Although the company hasn’t yet registered in the Kingdom, we can’t wait to see the first Tesla showroom in Cambodia.
