PM: Citizens Do Not Starve under CPP Leadership

PHNOM PENH: The Prime Minister of Cambodia and the President of the Cambodian People's Party, Hun Sen, stated that as the party leading the state, the CPP does not allow people to starve under its supervision.

At a meeting to discuss the upcoming International Labor Day on the morning of 23 April 2023 at Koh Pich Theater in Phnom Penh, President Hun Sen emphasized, "We have to pay close attention to the people who are suffering."

Prime Minister Hun Sen also praised Cambodia's victories in the fight against Covid-19, saying that the success stems from the availability of vaccines for the people who run the country. He also commended the public’s cooperation in getting vaccinated. Because of this, he said, the nation was able to resume business-as-usual and steer the country in a new direction.

Cambodia’s effective response to the pandemic allowed the country to host the Asia-Europe Summit and the ASEAN Summit, which is a source of pride for Cambodia. Many leaders of the great powers came together in Phnom Penh in November. The event ran smoothly and encountered no major issues.

The Prime Minister continued to call on the public to continue to fight against Covid-19. He noted that despite the recent lifting of Covid regulations, the disease is not over yet. He urged citizens to pay attention to helping the poor, especially the most vulnerable, such as those affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

The CPP was founded on 28 June 1951, and is the oldest and largest party in Cambodia since 1979. Whilst under CPP leadership, significant progress has been made and living standards have improved. The party counts its three major achievements as the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge regime, the reunification of the nation, and the victory over the Covid-19 pandemic.
