Cambodia Prepares to Evacuate 6 Students from Sudan as Violence Intensifies

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen asked Sudan’s Senior Minister Osman Hassan to monitor the situation of six Cambodian students in Sudan, as violence in the country escalates.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Wat Barmey Vong Borey on 24 April, the Prime Minister said he would like the displaced Cambodians to accompany displaced Malaysians who are preparing to be evacuated by the Malaysian government.

A long-standing military rivalry has exploded in Sudan’s capital city over the last few weeks, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured. Foreign embassies have closed and diplomats from several countries have been evacuated. Thousands of foreigners remain in the country and the US has ordered its citizens to “shelter-in-place” until it becomes safe to carry out evacuations.
