"Sen Chanrithy Kun" Chosen as Thiago Teixeira's Official Khmer Name

PHNOM PENH: Brazilian Kun Khmer fighter, Thiago Teixeira, received his official Khmer name "Sen Chanrithy Kun", after being granted Cambodian citizenship by the King of Cambodia on 14 April 2023.

The Honorary Vice President of the Khmer Boxing Federation, Srey Chanthorn, posted a message on his social media page on 14 April publicly announcing that “Sen Chanrithy Kun” was chosen as Thiago Teixeira’s official Khmer name.

Oknha Srey Chanthorn also thanked Teixeira’s supporters saying that if it weren’t for the support of the Cambodian people, the Brazilian boxer would not have been able to receive an official Khmer name.

Teixeira himself also expressed gratitude to his supporters and gave special thanks to the King of Cambodia and the Royal Government for granting him citizenship and for trusting him to represent Cambodia.

"This means a lot to me, for believing in me as an athlete and as an Ambassador to Cambodia. Thank you for believing in me," he said.

Further breaking down the meaning behind his Khmer name, "Sen Chanrithy Kun", the Brazilian fighter shared that ‘Sen’ is giving credit and gratitude to Prime Minister Hun Sen, ‘Chan’ refers to Monday, the first day of the week, ‘Rithy’ means strength and power, and ‘Kun’ refers to Kun Khmer boxing.

The King of Cambodia officially signed a Royal Decree on 11 April 2023 granting Cambodian nationality to Thiago Teixeira and his Polish-American manager.
