Police Hunt for Suspect in Brutal Rape of 14-Year-Old in Kampong Speu

Kampong Speu: A manhunt is underway for the prime suspect in a brutal rape and attempted murder of a 14-year-old girl in Kampong Speu. Police, the Cambodia National Council for Children and the Child Protection Unit have all sprung into action, while the young victim fights for her life in a Phnom Penh hospital.

It was Monday afternoon when the 14-year-old girl was attacked with an axe and raped – allegedly by her neighbour, who’d called her to his home, pretending to need help. After raping her, and attacking her with an axe, he left her for dead, locking her inside his home and fled.

The young girl managed to call for help and give first responders some details, before lapsing into a coma. She’s now fighting for her life in Phnom Penh’s Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital. Deputy-Secretary General of the Cambodian National Council for Children, Ms. Sambath Sokunthea told EAC News that she is deeply saddened by the incident.

She says the suspect is a 32-year-old man called Math Mostafha. While a picture of him has not been released, if you know his whereabouts or more details about this case, please contact your local police station, the Cambodian National Council for Children or the Child Protection Unit.
