Cambodia Breaks World Record for Largest Madison Dance

SIEM REAP: Cambodia broke the "Largest Madison Dance" record once again at the Angkor Sankranta event with nearly 5,000 participants.

The dance took place on the Terrace of the Elephants on the morning of 15 April with a total of 4,999 participants. Cambodia earned the same title in 2015 when 2,015 participants danced the Madison at that year’s Angkor Sangkranta festivities.

The President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, Hun Many, said that the purpose of breaking the record of the Madison Dance once again is to show the world that Cambodia’s unity and abilities are growing every day under the slogan, "Khmer can do it.”

"Beyond breaking world records, we want to create programs that bring people from all walks of life together for the same goal,” he said.

He went on to confirm that the record-breaking program was also organized to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Angkor Sankranta, bringing back a meaningful spectacle to the world and reviving the proud memories of the Cambodian people. The event was also meant to encourage tourists to participate in the celebrations.
