SIEM REAP: Strong winds in Siem Reap province on Friday morning, 7 April 2023, caused damage to infrastructure, affecting citizens of three villages in Bakong district. The Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Administration has meanwhile confirmed that all damages will be fixed and repaired in time to receive tourists for the Khmer New Year next week.
Siem Reap Provincial Administrative Director, Ly Vannak, has told EAC News that rain mixed with heavy winds on Friday morning damaged around 40-50% of booths and decorations set up for the Khmer New Year around the riverside and in front of the Royal Residence.
He said the provincial administration and other stakeholders are currently addressing the damages and reorganizing booths and decorations so that everything will still be ready before the Khmer New Year next week.
He added that the new booths and decorations will be built stronger to prevent any further accidents from occurring.
In addition to the damages around the riverside, infrastructure in three villages in Bakong district – Bakong village, Kantraing village and Rolous village – were also impacted by the heavy rain and winds.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has warned that some areas of the country will experience rain, thunderstorms and heavy winds from 5-11 April, calling on all citizens to take caution during instances of bad weather.
