Former Opposition Official: Collapse of Opposition Caused by Incompetence and Selfishness

PHNOM PENH: A former official to three opposition parties, including FUNCINPEC and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), who once held senior positions such as 'Director of the Cabinet' and 'Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior', Kong Hun Thearith, has stated that he believes the failure of the opposition stems from incompetence and selfishness. This is according to a Facebook post made by the Prime Minister’s Assistant, Duong Dara.

“Mr. Thearith has worked faithfully for the opposition for the past 30 years, however, the end result is that he is now a miserable 65-year-old,” wrote Duong Dara. “Through direct work with the leaders of three opposition parties, Mr. Kong Hun Thearith has confirmed that the failure and collapse of those parties stems from them being full of officials who are greedy, incompetent, lacking in virtue, responsibility and honesty, selfish, and self-interested, leaving all their supporters to face their own problems alone.”

“Through these experiences, Mr. Kong Hun Thearith clearly sees that there is only one strong Cambodian People's Party under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who has always remained close to the people with love, compassion and care, and served the people with utmost honesty,” added Duong Dara.
