New Siem Reap Airport to Open in October

SIEM REAP: The new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is nearing completion and scheduled to finally open in October 2023.

Siem Reap Provincial Governor Tea Seiha shared this information at a press conference on the achievements made by the Siem Reap provincial administration in the past five years, held on Wednesday morning, 29 March 2023.

The director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism, Ngov Seng Kak, confirmed that before the Covid-19 pandemic, the old Siem Reap airport received between 60-70 flights a day, but currently the airport only receives around 15-19 flights per day.

The new Siem Reap-Angkor Airport, located in Tayek Commune, Sot Nikum District, is being built on 750 hectares of land by Angkor International Airport Investment Cambodia Co., Ltd. (AIAL) with a private Chinese investment of US $900 million.

The director of the provincial tourism department has said he hopes the new Siem Reap airport will increase the number of tourists visiting the province. He added that in 2022, Siem Reap received more than 2 million tourists.

The sprawling Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport began construction on 15 March 2020, employing more than 1,000 workers, 70 percent of whom are Cambodian.

The airport is located 40 km from the Angkor Wat temple complex and can accommodate all levels of flights.
