PM Stresses Race and Religion are Not Obstacles to National Development

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has stated that all races and religions in Cambodia must unite to help the nation grow. The Prime Minister stressed that religious and ethnic differences are not seen as an obstacle in Cambodian society.

Addressing the 7th National Ramadan Iftar Dinner on Monday evening, 27 March 2023, Prime Minister Hun Sen recalled the dire state of religion and religious practice during the Khmer Rouge era, however, he highlighted that the practice of all religions was reinstated and protected by the government once the Khmer Rouge was overthrown.

He added that religious harmony in Cambodia has allowed the country to avoid religious conflicts, helping the country move forward in its rapid development.

He further emphasized that religion and ethnicity are not obstacles to Cambodia's national and social development

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar bin Ibrahim, stated at the National Ramadan Iftar dinner that he hopes countries pursuing racist policies, especially those in the West that claim to be democratic and uphold human rights, would look to the example of the Cambodian Prime Minister who has reinstated peace and religious harmony in Cambodia.
