PM to Always Protect Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced that he will protect the Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) and will ensure that its headquarters will not have to relocate. The Prime Minister revealed that three companies have already approached him asking to be given the institute's land.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the annual meeting to review the work of the Ministry of Agriculture on Friday, 24 March 2023, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that CARDI has made significant contributions to the development of Cambodia's agricultural sector, such as by helping to produce the No. 1 ranked rice in the world.

The Prime Minister asserted that whether now or in the future, the institute will not have to relocate from its original headquarters.

CARDI was established in 1999 and became operational in early 2000. The institute's primary goal was achieving food security through increased rice production. Since this goal has been achieved, CARDI's latest focus has been on crop diversification and quality.
