PM Asks Nippon Foundation President to Continue Assisting Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen met with the President of The Nippon Foundation, Yohei Sasakawa, at the Peace Palace on Friday morning, 24 March 2023.

During the meeting, Mr Yohei Sasakawa briefed the Cambodian Prime Minister on the activities of the Sasakawa Foundation in the Kingdom. The Sasakawa Foundation is part of the Nippon Foundation and is currently active in four key areas.

First, he shared that the foundation established a school for the production of artificial limbs around 30 years. The school produces high quality, highly technical and respected prosthetics, and students from 28 countries around the world come to study at the school in Cambodia.

Second, he shared that the foundation helps teach English and provide scholarships to approximately 25,000 students so that they can pursue their studies in Phnom Penh and abroad.

Third, the foundation is involved in the Ministry of Health’s fight against leprosy in Cambodia. The Kingdom today has almost no leprosy patients left.

Finally, Mr Sasakawa shared that the Nippon Foundation is also involved in different humanitarian activities in Myanmar that help support women and children.

Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his pleasure at hearing the progress achieved by the Sasakawa Foundation in Cambodia, not only assisting the Cambodian people but also people from other countries, through the production of prosthetics.

The Prime Minister thanked Mr Sasakawa for helping Cambodia in the fields of education and health, and for also extending help to children and women in Myanmar. He asked the President of the Nippon Foundation to continue assisting Cambodia for as long as possible.
