“Alternative State Quarantine” Pilot Project Launched

Phnom Penh: The Inter-Ministerial Commission for Combating Covid-19 has officially launched an “Alternative State Quarantine” pilot project for international travellers coming into the country through Phnom Penh International Airport. The commission has chosen two hotels that can be pre-booked two days prior to arrival. Those hotels are Courtyard by Marriott Phnom Penh and Sokha Phnom Penh.

Upon arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, travellers with a quarantine booking at one of these hotels are required to present a valid visa issued by the Cambodian Embassy or from the Cambodian Consulate in the country of origin. Apart from the visa, they also have to present a health certificate, a Covid-19 negative result within 72 hours before departure and health insurance to cover any Covid-19 treatment. In addition, the traveller also needs to present a copy of their two-week hotel reservation for quarantine. In the event that the passenger tests positive for Covid-19 on arrival, or is deemed to be at high risk, they will not be allowed to proceed with the booked hotel and instead, will be transferred to a health facility designated by the health ministry.

The announcement has also clarified that in case of services not being available at the booked hotels, a refund will be provided. The booked hotel is responsible for the transportation of the passenger from the airport. For travellers who do not use the booking services of the two selected hotels, they will have to follow existing procedures, including the $2000 deposit to guarantee the cost of the process and spend their quarantine period in a government-designated hotel.
