PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Tourism has encouraged all provincial Departments of Tourism and Departments of Cult and Religion, to work together to organize pagoda tours in order to attract tourists and help them understand the history and traditions of the Khmer New Year. Cambodia currently has a total of 5,133 pagodas.

In a circular issued by the Ministry of Tourism on 20 March 2023, the Ministry encouraged the provincial Departments of Tourism and Departments of Cult and Religion to "collaborate and set up pagoda tours for international tourists to learn about the history and customs of the traditional Khmer New Year".

The circular also instructed the provincial Departments of Tourism to cooperate with the Departments of Culture and Fine Arts, and the Departments of Education, Youth and Sports, to hold a traditional song contest, a poetry contest, a Chapei performance contest and host Khmer traditional games in their respective localities, as well as to facilitate the performance of the traditional 'Trut Dance' at major destinations such as hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, entertainment venues and businesses.

Along with the "Angkor Sankranta" event hosted in Siem Reap, the Ministry of Tourism urges the Capital and Provincial Administration, relevant departments and partners to organize traditional Sankranta New Year events and entertainment programs.

The Ministry of Tourism also recommends that businesses and tour operators clearly list the price of accommodation, food and other services both in Khmer and in other foreign languages, in order to avoid bad customer feedback. The Ministry warns that if businesses do not follow this instruction, business owners will be liable to the law.

The Ministry has also instructed relevant institutions to educate tourism business owners and tourists to avoid littering and to ensure that all trash is thrown in the appropriate bins.
