DPM Sar Kheng Highlights Importance of Women in Promoting National Development

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Interior, DPM Sar Kheng, has stated that in addition to participating in the public sector, women play an important and indispensable role as the creators of society's next successors, nurturing one generation to the next, making "Women the mothers of the world".

The Minister of Interior made this statement while presiding over the International Women's Day celebration on Sunday, 12 March 2023. This year marked the 112th anniversary of International Women's Day (commemorated around the world on 8 March) and was held under the theme, "Women: Together for Peace and Development in the Digital Age".

DPM Sar Kheng emphasized the importance of celebrating women and in continuing to promote the invaluable role women play in maintaining peace, as well as in actively participating in accelerating development in all areas of the country. He stressed that this work is especially important in the current context of the digital age.

He added that International Women's Day on 8 March should not be seen as a single day for women's empowerment, but rather, everyone must remember that women's rights are an indispensable human right and women must continue to be respected and guaranteed the right to participate in the creation, protection and development of all sectors, as well as to be educators, caregivers and environmentalists across all generations.

The DPM emphasized that the Ministry of Interior has also taken steps to improve gender and environmental equity by implementing and monitoring new activities that provide more opportunities and benefits to women and men equally. These activities have been implemented to reflect in the ranks of civil servants and subordinate forces at the national and sub-national levels, as well as among the people who benefit from the public services provided by the Ministry of Interior.

International Women's Day, held annually on 8 March, serves as a reminder to people all over the world that women have the same rights as men, and these rights were ensured from the more than 100 years of struggle women endured against numerous obstacles. The day celebrates and recognizes the indispensable value of women in the process of building, protecting and developing society.
