Online Tax Payments for Vehicles Introduced

Phnom Penh: The taxman says this year’s vehicle taxes can be paid online through government’s online tax payment system, because of Covid-19. Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister and Royal Government Delegate in charge of the Director General of the General Department of Taxation, Mr. Kong Vibol, says online taxes are effective and easily accessible.

He says, "We have already decided that vehicle taxes can be paid at a bank”, but given the ongoing community outbreak of Covid-19, he has implemented an online tax payment program so that all taxpayers who have not yet paid can do so safely. He noted that in cases where the public finds it difficult to pay taxes at banks or other branches due to Covid-19, the public can access the tax website. Once vehicle tax has been paid, the General Department of Taxation will arrange for the license disc to be posted or delivered to the vehicle owner. Mr. Vibol stated that the public can view the history of tax payments of each vehicle and can pay for up to 10 vehicles at a time.

He says this is a new offering from the General Department of Taxation, which is busy developing tax payment software for all types of vehicles online, making it easier for the public to simply type in the vehicle model and registration number and the vehicle’s records will then appear. He added that new vehicles must be registered with the Ministry of Public Works which will then submit the data to the General Department of Taxation.
