Singapore Intelligence Chief Praises Cambodian PM's ASEAN Chairmanship

PHNOM PENH: Singapore's Chief of Intelligence, Lau Peet Meng, has praised the Cambodian Prime Minister for his 2022 ASEAN Chairmanship, and for maintaining peace across the region.

Speaking at a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Peace Palace on Tuesday morning, 28 February 2023, Lau Peet Meng acknowledged the progress Cambodia has made and said that the successful ASEAN Chairmanship of Prime Minister Hun Sen has contributed to regional and global peace.

He also asked for advice from the Prime Minister on how to make the relationship between Singapore and Cambodia stronger.

Prime Minister Hun Sen, in turn, stated that the success of the ASEAN Summit was due to the active participation of all stakeholders, including both ASEAN members and ASEAN partners.

In regard to enhancing the relationship between Singapore and Cambodia, the Prime Minister urged for greater air travel connections to make it easier for tourists to travel between the two countries, and also encouraged further cooperation in other fields as well.

On Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen also met with the Commander of the Singapore Army, Major-General David Neo, during which he promoted further military cooperation between the two countries, especially in sharing experiences and information, and the development of human resources.
