Siem Reap’s 38-Road Project Almost Complete

Siem Reap: Siem Reap’s massive, $140-million road project will be completed by the end of the year. This has been confirmed by Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Sun Chantol, who led this week’s inspection of the 38-road project. It’s now just over 60% complete.

The Minister led a team of engineers to inspect the quality and design of the roads, but also looked at progress being made on sidewalks. Involving a total length of 108 kilometres, the project is effectively a complete overhaul of Siem Reap’s road network and is expected to be a major boost for tourism when the country’s borders reopen post-pandemic. It is also connecting the provincial capital to rural areas.

Prime Minister Hun Sen approved the 38-road project last November. It is on track to be finished by the end of 2021. Many are hoping it will help the provincial economy bounce back. Siem Reap has been decimated by the pandemic, relying as heavily as it does on international tourism.
