Cambodia-Germany to Strengthen Cooperation

PHNOM PENH: The Chairwoman of the German Parliamentary delegation in charge of ASEAN, Gabriele Katzmarek, has remarked that Cambodia and Germany have a long history of relations and cooperation.

In a meeting with National Assembly President, Heng Samrin, on Wednesday morning, 22 February 2023, Katzmarek stated that Germany and Cambodia will further strengthen and deepen its cooperation toward accomplishing more achievements.

National Assembly President, Heng Samrin, noted that Germany has made a significant contribution to the peace and development process in Cambodia by supporting various development projects in the country, and through socioeconomic cooperation and cultural exchange.

He emphasized how Cambodia and Germany have now had diplomatic relations for more than five decades, and said that this is a good relationship that is constantly being improved.

President Heng Samrin also remarked on how the German President’s recent visit to Cambodia marked a turning point in the history of bilateral relations between the two countries. He also noted that Ms. Katzmarek and her accompanying delegation’s visit is expected to further enhance the existing friendly relations and good cooperation, particularly between the two countries’ legislatures.

He further thanked the government and people of Germany for the assistance provided to Cambodia during the peacebuilding process, and for also contributing to Cambodia's socioeconomic development in all areas, including in the fields of education, culture, rural development, energy, demining, poverty reduction, land reform, infrastructure development and good governance.
