Fire Destroys Over 100 Stalls at Kep’s White Horse Market

Kep: More than a hundred vendors in Kep have lost their businesses after Monday night’s fire at the town’s White Horse Market. Both the Kep Provincial Commission and Kampot Provincial Commission responded to the blaze. Investigators believe it was caused by an electrical fault in a light that had been left on. Almost the entire market has been destroyed.

The alarm was first raised at about 6pm, when thick black smoke was seen rising from the market’s roof. Fortunately, the vendors themselves had already left. Residents rushed to call the fire department, with trucks from Kep and Kampot both responding. It took about two hours for the fire to be brought under control.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but while no-one was injured, over a hundred stalls have been destroyed.
