More Than 60,000 People Caught Fish in Boeung Trapeang Kram

TBONG KHMUM: Every year in February, after the farmers complete their harvest, a fishing festival is held at Boeung Trapeang Kram resort in Memot district of Tbong Khmum province, to commemorate the preservation of ancient heritage. This year, more than 60,000 people attended the festival.

The Governor of Tbong Khmum Province, Cheam Chansophorn, initiated the traditional fishing ceremony at Boeung Trapeang Kram in Satum Village, Choam Kravien Commune, Memot District on Saturday, 18 February 2023.

The Choam Kravien commune chief and Chairman of the Boeung Trapeang Kram fishing organizing committee, Ouch Yoeun, has stated that in the two days before the main fishing celebration, many people come together to visit the Boeung Trapeang Kram area, enjoying traditional dance and song throughout the day and night.

On Saturday, 18 February, he said more than 60,000 people from Tbong Khmum, Kampong Cham, Kratie, Prey Veng and Svay Rieng provinces came to celebrate the festival, using traditional fishing tools to catch many different types of fish.

It should be noted that people are only allowed to fish in Boeung Trapeang Kram once a year. After the fishing celebration concludes, many protect and defend the village area and the police prohibit fishing in the lake using illegal equipment, in order to protect the lake's natural biodiversity.
