PM Meets Cambodian Students Immediately After Arriving in Laos

VIENTIANE: Prime Minister Hun Sen and a high-level delegation of the Royal Government of Cambodia, arrived safely in Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) at 9:30 am on Monday, 13 February 2023, for a two-day official state visit.

After landing safely at Vatey International Airport, the Cambodian delegation was greeted by high-ranking officials of the Lao Government, a representative of the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cambodian Ambassador to the Lao PDR and other dignitaries.

Prime Minister Hun Sen then met with 86 Cambodian students who are currently studying in Laos. During the meeting he instructed all students to study hard, do good deeds, maintain good relations with their professors and classmates, and especially with the people of Laos.

He also instructed all students to learn how to monitor the evolving situation of the world and their home country, especially to understand what can be defined as real progress without buying into certain deceptions or distortions of truth regarding Cambodia’s development.

The Cambodian Ambassador to the Lao PDR informed Prime Minister Hun Sen that Cambodian students currently studying in Laos are facing high interest rates due to the declining Lao currency, making it difficult for them to exchange money. She said that the students in Laos are studying subjects such as architecture, civil engineering, computer science, environment, tourism, interior decoration, English literature and economics.

The Prime Minister donated some funds to the Cambodian students studying in Laos, and further asked for their understanding regarding the difficult situation of the exchange rate which was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
