German President to Pay Three-Day Official State Visit to Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: A high-level delegation led by German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and First Lady Elke Büdenbender, will pay a three-day official state visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 14-16 February 2023. This is according to a press release from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, the German President will hold talks with Cambodia's political leaders and representatives of civil society, among others. He will be learning first-hand about the current state of the mine clearance efforts that Germany is supporting and about the restoration work being conducted at the Angkor Wat temple complex. He will also be visiting a memorial that commemorates the victims of the Khmer Rouge reign of terror.

Earlier this week on Monday, 6 February, the Secretary General of the Cambodian Senate, Oum Sarith, led a meeting to discuss the important work that must be done to prepare for the reception and welcome of the President of Germany.

Following President Frank-Walter Steinmeier's visit to Cambodia, he will depart to Malaysia on 16 February 2023.
