New Thai Ambassador Says Cambodia-Thailand Trade Relations Will Increase in Next Year

PHNOM PENH: The newly appointed Thai Ambassador to Cambodia has stated that he believes the good relations, trust and cooperation between the Senate of Cambodia and Thailand will further develop and enhance the relationship and cooperation between the two countries' legislatures in the next year.

On Tuesday morning, 7 February 2023, the new Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, Cherdkiat Atthakor, paid a courtesy call to the President of the Senate of Cambodia, Say Chhum. During the meeting, the Thai Ambassador praised the mutual contributions of the Senates of both countries, saying they have played an important role in promoting relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand.

He further noted how the two countries reopened their borders to facilitate people-to-people travel and resume cross-border trade once the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic had improved. He stated his belief that trade and investment between the two countries will increase in the coming years, and people-to-people contacts will also be further strengthened.

He praised the progress and development of Cambodia in all fields, and said that friendly relations and cooperation with Thailand have also strengthened and expanded in all fields, in which trade and investment have increased the most significantly.

The Thai Ambassador expressed that he will strive to make new achievements through his diplomatic mission that will contribute to the strengthening of friendly relations and good cooperation between the Parliaments, Governments, and people of Cambodia and Thailand.

In turn, Cambodian Senate President Say Chhum expressed his pleasure in seeing the economic development and rise of investments between the two countries, particularly aided by the exchange of visits by senior leaders, people-to-people exchange and the continued dedication to support one another within the framework of international cooperation.

The newly appointed Ambassdor of Thailand to Cambodia is 72-year-old Cherdkiat Atthakor, who presented his credentials to the King of Cambodia on 1 December 2022.
