Cambodia is Ready to Break World Records During This Year's Angkor Sankranta

SIEM REAP: This year's Angkor Sankranta event is expected to be bigger than in previous years, with 44 fun events planned across six different locations, including two world record-breaking events.

On Saturday morning, 4 February 2023, the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) organized the groundbreaking ceremony for Angkor Sankranta 2023 with the participation of the Vice President of UYFC, Sar Sokha.

The head of the Outreach and Public Relations Team of the Angkor Sankranta 2023, Som Ratana, highlighted that there are two programs planned during this time to break two world records, however, he did not provide any more details about these plans.

He said that 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of Angkor Sankranta under the theme "Dreams and Hopes", an event that highlights the heritage, civilization, culture, traditions and achievements of Cambodian ancestors. Many activities such as folk games, traditional dances and folk dances, scenes of Cambodian life, cultural performing arts, and more will be prepared for this event.

From 13-16 April 2023, Angkor Sankranti will present a happy scene and reminder of major events in Cambodia that broke historical record and gained recognition internationally. Angkor Sankranta is something that lingers in the minds of the Cambodian people when commemorating the traditional Khmer New Year.

The Angkor Sankranta event was initiated as the first large-scale cultural spectacle in 2013 in the Angkor area of Siem Reap, by the UYFC, for the purpose of gathering young people and the public to celebrate the traditional Khmer New Year as a single, large Cambodian family. The event commemorates and helps revitalize Cambodia's intangible heritage, urging people to participate in the preservation and development of national culture and prestige on the international stage, and providing opportunities for young people, national and international tourists to learn about the diverse cultures, civilizations, traditions and religions of Cambodia.

Previously, during the closing ceremony of the 3rd National Games at Morodok Techo National Stadium on 30 November 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced the return of Angkor Sankranti 2023, saying it will be an event that gives people happiness and will once again bring together a great big Khmer family.
