Cambodian Red Cross Calls on Donors to Join the Movement to Rehabilitate People's Lives

SIHANOUKVILLE: The Cambodian Red Cross has called on philanthropists and donors from all areas to join the humanitarian organization in working with the Royal Government to address challenges and help restore the economy and support people's livelihoods.

This call was made by the Cambodian Red Cross during a celebration with 200 students of the Sihanoukville University of Management and Economics on Saturday, 4 February 2023, held under the theme, "Together with the Cambodian Red Cross for a Social Environment", in the presence of the First Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross, Men Neary Sopheak.

The Cambodian Red Cross has decided to postpone the celebration of the 160th anniversary of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent day on 8 May 2023, but will continue to call on philanthropists and donors to make generous contributions to the Cambodian Red Cross to commemorate this event.

First Deputy Secretary General, Men Neary Sopheak, called on donors to continue supporting the generous and transparent culture of the Cambodian Red Cross so that the national branch has enough funds to continue providing humanitarian services to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people, without discrimination on the basis of race, creed, religion or political affiliation, and to ensure that no one is left behind.

The Cambodian Red Cross was established on 18 February 1955 and is the 85th member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has designated 8 May, the birthday of Red Cross founder, Henry Dunant, as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. 2023 will mark the humanitarian movement’s 160th anniversary.
