Jealous Man Murders Girlfriend, Drives Car into Water and Commits Suicide

KOH KONG: On Thursday morning, 2 February 2023, residents found the body of a man hanging from a mangrove tree, along with a car sunken into the water of Prek Chamlong in Ta Chat village, Tuol Koki commune, Mondul Seima district of Koh Kong province.

Inside the car, the body of a woman was also found. Authorities concluded this to be a murder case, with the deceased man believed to be the murderer.

According to the authorities, the man is believed to have asked the woman, suspected to be his mistress, to get inside the car and then suffocated and killed her with a car seat cover before driving the car into the water with the intention of committing suicide. The man, however, did not die from doing this, hence, is believed to have hung himself from a mangrove tree.

Authorities quoted witnesses who knew the man and woman before this horrific incident, stating that they believed the man was likely to be driven by jealousy and inclined to murder her.

The believed murderer was 54-year-old salesman, Sam Sok, who resided in Village 3, Pak Klang Commune, Mondul Seima District of Koh Kong Province. The victim was a 28-year-old housewife living in a rented room in Stung Veng Village, Sangkat Stung Veng, Khemarak Phoumin City, Koh Kong Province.
