Kong Korm Resigns as Supreme Advisor to the Candlelight Party

PHNOM PENH: Kong Korm has announced that he has decided to end his role and activities as the Supreme Advisor of the Candlelight Party.

The news of Kong Korm's resignation was announced in a letter written by him and his wife, addressed to the Prime Minister of Cambodia and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), Hun Sen, on 31 January 2023.

In the letter, he wrote, “I, Kong Korm, have decided to end my role and activities as the Supreme Advisor of the Candlelight Party from now onwards.”

Kong Korm and his wife thanked the Prime Minister for not continuing the court complaint made against him regarding the return of land to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, located at House 71, Street Sothearos, Tonle Bassac commune, Chamkarmon district.

He also thanked the Prime Minister for having his son, Kong Bora, become a member of the CPP and an Under Secretary of State for the Ministry of Interior, as well as for providing him with a car.

Kong Korm also acknowledged the mistake he made regarding the use of state land and apologized to the Prime Minister and other leaders of the CPP for his past actions, which he said affected the honor and dignity of CPP leaders, and affected the peace of society.
