Cambodia Received Over 10,000 Flights in 2022

PHNOM PENH: There were a total of 10,938 international flights that arrived in Cambodia in 2022. To compare, in 2021 there were only 2,139.

On Thursday, 19 January 2023, the Ministry of Tourism released the 2022 Tourism Statistics Report, showing a record total of 10,938 international flights to Cambodia in 2022. Phnom Penh International Airport (PHN) received 8,740 flights, while Siem Reap International Airport (REP) received 1,738 flights, and Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS) received 460 flights.

According to the report, Cambodia received a total of 2.28 million foreign tourists, an increase of 1059% compared to 2021, and 13.93 million domestic tourists, an increase of 199% (1.88 million were domestic foreign tourists — an increase of 572%).

The Ministry of Tourism also stated that the 10 main tourist groups that came to Cambodia in 2022, compared to 2021, were: 853,376 Thai nationals (an increase of 942.7%); 463,995 Vietnamese nationals (an increase of 1997.6%); 106,875 Chinese nationals (an increase of 133.5%); and tourists from other countries such as the United States, Laos, Indonesia, South Korea, France, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom.

Recently, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) and Royal Group Koh Rong Development Company signed an MoA and established a master plan for the construction of Koh Rong International Ecotourism Airport (Class 4C) on the Koh Rong development area in Sihanoukville, which presents a new opportunity to attract foreign tourists as well.
