CPP Says the Party Won't Tolerate Insults from the Candlelight Party

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has stated that it considers the statement made by the Candlelight Party on Wednesday, 18 January 2023, to be insulting and damaging to the dignity of the CPP.

The Candlelight Party issued a statement on Tuesday, 17 January, alleging that the ruling party (CPP) had used repression, intimidation, and political persecution against the opposition.

In response, the CPP declared that it finds the statement unacceptable under Cambodia’s liberal multi-party democracy, with the political system strictly adhering to the Cambodian Constitution's principles of democracy and law.

The CPP stressed that "the party will do everything in accordance with the law to protect itself from being abused." The ruling party also expressed that it fully supports the actions of the Royal Government and competent authorities against anyone who violates the law.

The CPP has pledged to actively work with other political parties and people from all backgrounds to improve the political situation in Cambodia, in order to guarantee that the upcoming general election on 23 July 2023 is free, fair, and just.

The party has called on all compatriots to unite with the Royal Government under the Constitution and the King to protect the peace and development of the nation.
