Kong Koam Asks to Meet PM Hun Sen After ACU's Investigate

Phnom Penh: The Senior Advisor of the Candlelight Party, Mr. Kong Koam, requested to meet with the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen to clarify two issues. The request comes just hours after PM Hun Sen asked the Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate a case of encroachment on state land and houses by Kong Koam.

In his letter to PM Hun Sen dated January 12, 2023, Mr. Kong Koam stated that the reason he wanted to meet with PM was to inform him of two issues, including the CPP's complaint to Tbong Khmum province court and land issues at 71, Sothearos Street, Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkar Mon, Phnom Penh, where he and his family were living.

Mr. Kong Koam stated: “As mentioned above, I would like to ask Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo, President of the Cambodian People's Party and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to allow me to meet to ask for advice, the most precious and noble to the above matter by grace”.

At the same time, Mr. Kong Koam's son, Mr. Kong Monika, who is the former President of the Khmer Will Party, also asked PM to allow him to pay a courtesy call.

In the letter, Mr. Kong Monika wrote: "Please, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo, please allow me to pay a courtesy call and listen to guidance on the positive environment and political process of multi-party liberal democracy in Cambodia."

This week, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen intentionally demanded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reclaim the land and houses that Kong Koam forged, claiming that Kong Koam had falsified documents in order to take over the state land. He said that it was time to take back the land and houses of the state that was swindled, and this morning, PM asked the Anti-Corruption Unit to open an investigation into this fraud case.

Along with wanting to take back state land and houses, a CPP lawyer in Tbong Khmum province also decided to sue Kong Koam for $ 500,000 in damages, claiming that Kong Koam stated in A public forum in the province that allegedly violated the law on political parties and the criminal code of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In a complaint dated January 10, 2023, three CPP co-lawyers requested the Tbong Khmum Provincial Prosecutor to review, prosecute and convict Kong Koam.
