Hun Many Highlights Three Things to Remember on 7 January

KAMPONG SPEU: Member of Parliament for Kampong Speu Province, Hun Many, has said that Cambodians should remember three key aspects while remembering 7 January Victory Day.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 6th Soccer League on 7 January 2023, Hun Many mentioned the following three points:

1. The 18 March 1970 coup d'état led by General Lon Nol, overthrowing the King Father and pushing Cambodia into war and tragedy.

2. Even with peace and stability today, no one should forget this tragedy, especially the approximately three million Cambodians who died unjustly during the genocidal regime of the Khmer Rouge over the course of three years, eight months and 20 days.

3. Victory Day, 7 January 1979, was a new beginning for Cambodia and its people, leading to the country’s current state of development. Presently, the Cambodian people are living in harmony, hope and peace, striving to further develop and improve their quality of life, as well as national prestige.

7 January 2023 is the 44th anniversary of the victory of the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation, which overthrew the Democratic Kampuchea state under the Khmer Rouge. This historic victory day is celebrated annually across Cambodia.
