Queen Mother Sends Condolence Letter Over Death of Cambodia's First Female Singer

PHNOM PENH: Her Majesty the Queen Mother of Cambodia, Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, has sent a letter of condolence to the family of Cambodia's first female singer, Paulette Huot Sambath, the singer of "Chong Sral" and "Sombot Krom Knoy," who passed away on Wednesday, 4 January 2023, at the age of 88 in Phnom Penh.

"I will always remember the loyalty of Her Excellency's father and mother, who served His Majesty, the King Father, and me until the last moment of their lives," said the Queen Mother.

Paulette Huot Sambath, the first female singer of Cambodia, died at around 5:35 am on Wednesday from old age.

She was part of Cambodia's first generation of contemporary music artists. Today, very few singers from this 'Golden Age' generation remain. She was known as Savatey, her stage name, and was the first female contemporary singer to become famous in the early 1950s.
