Siem Reap’s Trapeang Phong Temple Undergoes Restoration

Siem Reap: The Apsara National Authority is now restoring the dilapidated Trapeang Phong temple in Siem Reap province. The ancient temple, located in Prasat Bakong district, was built in the mid-9th century by King Jayavarman III and was dedicated to Hinduism.

Archaeologist and Conservation Officer Mr. Saray Kim Huol, says that after assessing the condition of the temple, the APSARA National Authority decided to restore it this year to raise its value for tourism. Mr. Huol estimates that the restoration process is already at 40%, but that the rest of the work could take a year to be completed.

The APSARA Authority has been hard at work this year, preparing the archaeological park for a possible reopening of tourism. It has repaired the main gateway at Angkor Thom, along with its roadway and bridge. Most recently, it started work restoring the Bayon Temple by removing the stones that have laid scattered around its base for decades.
