Italy win Euro 2020

INTERNATIONAL: Italy wrecked England's Euro 2020 party at Wembley on Sunday night, winning the final on penalties to plunge the host nation into despair. The Three Lions were immediately ahead in the final, with Luke Shaw scoring the quickest goal ever in a European Championship final, just two minutes into the match, but Roberto’s Mancini’s men recovered from the shock to claim a 3-2 shootout victory.

The atmosphere in the stadium, packed with 67,000 fans, was feverish in the build-up to the match, which kicked off at 2am Cambodian time on Monday. It was 1-all after extra-time, which brought on the feared penalty shoot-out. Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved two England penalties to take the Azzurri to their 3-2 win.

It’s the second time Italy have been crowned European champions after they won in 1968 and was a soothing comeback after they failed to even qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. England were left in despair, not having won a major title since the 1966 World Cup. In Phnom Penh most bars were filled with expats and locals until early Monday morning supporting their favorite team. The kingdom’s Italians will no doubt be celebrating for few days more.
