PM: This Year’s Tax Collection Exceeded Estimates by More Than 25%

KAMPOT: According to Prime Minister Hun Sen, tax and customs revenue collections would total more than US $6 billion in 2022, which is more than 25% of what was anticipated.

He stated that in 2022, the General Department of Taxation collected US $3.4 billion, equivalent to 121.93% of the expected rate. Meanwhile, the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia collected US $2.6 billion, equivalent to 104.15%.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of National Roads No. 31 and 33 in Kampot and Kep provinces on Friday morning, 30 December 2022, the Prime Minister said, “This excludes the non-fiscal revenue, which is anticipated to increase this year given that just 2 million tourists will generate US $60 million in revenues."

Prime Minister Hun Sen stressed that the Royal Government's achievement of tax and customs revenue will give it the opportunity to invest in infrastructure, including roads, and also in foreign-funded projects in Cambodia.

The Prime Minister urged authorities at all levels to continue their efforts to collect taxes and duties effectively.

In 2021, the General Department of Customs and Excise collected US $2.2 billion, or 97.1% of the estimate, while the General Department of Taxation collected US $2.2 billion, or 24.02% of the estimate.
