Illegal Fishing Group Escapes Before Authorities Arrive

BATTAMBANG: On 28 December 2022, authorities conducted a crack down on illegal fishing at Tonle Sap Lake, Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province. However, the culprits became aware of the situation beforehand and fled the scene. When the officials arrived, the culprits were already gone, however, the found illegal fishing gear was confiscated.

In total, police confiscated 4,100 meters of fishnets, 11 fish storage units, and 300 pillars. The authorities burned all these items on the spot.

The authorities also released 250 kilograms of mixed fish back into the Tonle Sap Lake. They are now searching for the perpetrators.
