10 People Arrested in Connection to Kidnapping Case in Sihanoukville

SIHANOUKVILLE: Authorities have arrested 10 suspects in connection to a kidnapping case in Sihanoukville. A Chinese man was reportedly kidnapped on Monday, 26 December, and extorted of US $3,500, according to a Cambodian woman who states she is the man’s girlfriend.

The woman immediately filed a complaint with the Sihanoukville Provincial Police Commissioner reporting the kidnapping, upon which authorities quickly launched a search and seizure operation for a white ALPHARD vehicle along the expressway. The vehicle, kidnapping victim and three Cambodian suspects were quickly found.

Authorities then detained three more Chinese suspects the same day.

On Tuesday, 27 December, at around 4 pm in front of the Sihu Hotel in Sihanoukville, the police continued to arrest four more male suspects.

In total, 10 suspects were arrested, including seven Cambodians and three from China.

As evidence, authorities seized three cars, two knives, four flashlights, 21 mobile phones, seven hard cards, white powder suspected to be drugs, one kit, one Phnom Penh license plate and one wallet.

The suspects are currently being questioned by the low-level criminal police office and legal proceedings are underway.
