PM Proposes Affordable Housing Project

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen encourages real estate companies to continue to develop affordable housing projects for the people.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Constructions meeting on the afternoon of December 27, 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen urged the construction of affordable housing for middle-income families that cannot afford to buy a house.

The Prime Minister said this after noticing that low-income citizens and civil servants cannot afford to buy expensive houses. He underlined that the Royal Government had exempted the stamp duty tax on houses worth less than US $70,000 until the end of 2022.

At the same time, Prime Minister proposed giving needy and poor people land and identifying landforms for them so they would have land to settle down. The Royal Government also built houses for military soldiers stationed along the border and also for veterans.

According to the report of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, Cambodia has 3,827 construction projects nationwide with a total floor area of 6,596,936 square meters and investments worth more than 2.6 billion dollars.
