A Man Arrested for the Attempted Rape of His Younger Sister-in-law

BANTEAY MEANCHEY: Poipet City Police arrested and questioned a suspect after a 14-year-old girl reported on 24 December 2022, that he, her brother-in-law, attempted to molest and rape her. Fortunately, her sister came to her aid and reported the crime to the police.

According to the Poipet Police Station, the victim was a resident of Tumnup Kor 5 Village, Poipet City. She claimed that Soy Si, a 33-year-old man, had sexually assaulted her (rubbing her vagina) several times since 21 December 2022, but she screamed and chased him out of the room. Later, on 22 December 2022, around 9 p.m., while she was sleeping in the room, her brother-in-law, Soy Si sneaked into her room to sexually assault her again. The victim claimed she tried to push him away, but to no avail. Fortunately, her sister, Loh Marini opened the door and saw her husband hugging her sister from behind, which prompted her to drag him out of the house and start arguing.

The victim stated, "I have told my sister about this before; only now when she saw it with her own eyes, did she report it to the police."

Colonel Sao Saroeun, Poipet City Police Inspector, said that on 25 December 2022, while being questioned, the suspect, Soy Si, admitted that he had indeed sexually assaulted his sister-in-law.

The suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Office for further legal procedures.
