SIHANOUKVILLE: Prime Minister Hun Sen has issued a warning to a political party that was discovered to be involved in a fundraising event for Sam Rainsy at Wat Phnom Serey in the United States.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Street 146B connecting to Street 148 in Sihanoukville on Thursday morning, 22 December, Prime Minister Hun Sen gave a warning and said, "Do not let the government find proof [of involvement].”
Even though the Prime Minister did not verbally specify the name of the party, it is speculated that he was referring to the Candlelight Party, which opposition leader Sam Rainsy had founded.
In October 2022, the Prime Minister announced an ‘IF’ (‘Isolate’ and ‘Finish’) strategy to dissolve what he called the ideology of “three generations of traitors” (referring to Rainsy’s family) for the sake of Cambodia's peace.
This is the second notable dissolution strategy the Prime Minister has launched, after the DIFID strategy was formed to dissolve the Khmer Rouge in the 1990s.
