PM to Inaugurate Sihanoukville International Airport Renovation in January 2023

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen has accepted a request from the CEO of Vinci Company (France) to attend the inauguration of the Sihanoukville International Airport Renovation Project in January 2023. According to Minister's Delegate to the Prime Minister, Kao Kim Hourn, who spoke at a press conference after Prime Minister Hun Sen returned home on the morning of December 16, 2022.

Mr. Kao Kim Hourn said that PRIME Minister Hun Sen confirmed his approval during a meeting with a VINCI representative in France on December 13.

He said, "During the era of COVID-19, Cambodia has invested a large amount of money to develop infrastructure in Sihanoukville, making Sihanoukville more prosperous. As a response, VINCI's CEO proposed expanding and renovating the Sihanoukville Airport. The CEO also invited PM Hun Sen to inaugurate the Sihanoukville International Airport renovation project."

According to VINCI, Sihanoukville Airport has had considerable air traffic growth since its reopening in 2007 due to the launch of international flights and other numerous new routes connecting this popular destination, which is increasingly popular among domestic and Asian tourists.

In December 2016, VINCI Airport launched a major infrastructure strengthening program to expand the facilities and accommodate the increasing number of passenger arrivals at Sihanoukville Airport. It includes completely renovating the existing structure and expanding the current airport by 80%, from 2,700 square meters to 4,800 square meters.
