Meets Kesorrr, One of ABC "Exceptional" Individuals

PHNOM PENH: As Season 2 “The Exceptional” presented by ABC approaches the finale this 16 December 2022, EAC News sits down to get to know the 10 exceptional individuals.

Rithy Lomorkesor, also known as Kesorrr, is a singer who has pushed Cambodia’s contemporary music scene forward. She was the lead vocalist of SmallWorld SmallBand, a band that reshaped Cambodia’s music landscape with its original sound. Her exceptional drive has also seen her co-found PlerngKob, a creative house that aims to connect artists and develop modern Cambodian music, and BonnPhum, an annual art, and cultural festival.

Kesorrr told EAC News that she felt excited and anxious when she first heard that she was selected to be one of the candidates for season 2 “The Exceptionals.” However, throughout the process of answering questions for the 90-second video, she gained confidence and was proud of herself for have coming this far. She thanked the ABC team for their patience and encouragement throughout this process. She has really enjoyed the self-reflection.

She said that it is important to know who you are and love yourself. She is incredibly proud that she has not let money and fame affect her.

She said, “My proudest moment is right now. I have not given up and stayed on the course. I continue to learn and better myself in everything from songwriting to singing to how to live life for the better. I am still me. I have not let fame or money affect my character, vision, or integrity.”

She hopes that she could encourage others, especially women, to pursue their dreams and not be afraid to try.

She said, “The first step is usually scary, but once you take that step, you’ll be closer to your dream.”

If Kesorrr is selected to receive the $20,000, she would like to perform concerts in rural areas that would not normally have access to performances. Her music is largely written to inspire and encourage the LGBTQ+ community and women who have been physically, mentally, and emotionally abused. She hopes to encourage them to continue to move forward with their lives and know that they “are not alone.” She will also use the fund to support these victims financially.
