Meets Pol Kimsan, One of ABC "Exceptional" Individuals

PHNOM PENH: As Season 2 “The Exceptional” presented by ABC approaches the finale this 16 December 2022, EAC News sits down to get to know the 10 exceptional individuals.

Pol Kimsan, one of the renowned 'Kimsan Twins,' pioneered a new genre for fine Khmer dining. She has showcased her skills at the revered Embassy Restaurant in Siem Reap and across the globe. She is also a graduate of the prestigious Paul Dubrule hospitality school.

Kimsan told EAC News that she was surprised and overwhelmed to be chosen as one of ABC “Exceptional” individuals. It has been a crazy few years with the Covid-19 pandemic; however, she has embraced reality and moved forward no matter what life throws at her.

In her career so far, she is proud to be a leading chef and a woman, as the culinary industry is known for male-dominated chefs globally. Some recent achievements include cooking traditional dishes for Prime Minister Hun Sen and other world leaders at “Cambodia Night,” an event organized by the WorldBridge Group during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in May 2022.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, a famous chef, Kimsan is ready to take on the culinary world. As the current Culinary Director of Sombok Restaurant in Phnom Penh, she is working towards her ambition of earning Cambodia's first-ever Michelin star. She hopes that those who see her story will be inspired to chase their dream regardless of any obstacles.

She said, “Life is beautiful and precious, we have to live it happily. Focus on your dreams, and work on them. We all fail and make mistakes; we are all human beings, and it happens. But never give up. Work hard until you reach your goal and do not forget to keep your feet on the ground. You [will] become successful.”

If Kimsan is selected to receive the $20,000, she would like to donate a portion of the money and use part of it to travel the world with her family.
