PHNOM PENH: The Commissariat of Phnom Penh Municipal Police has dismissed reports of an incident involving people trapped in a supermarket in Phnom Penh, saying it is a fabricated story that has contributed to social insecurity.
The Commissariat of Phnom Penh Municipal Police has confirmed that an image circulating online allegedly showing people stuck in a supermarket is actually from another country, and is not a picture that was taken in Phnom Penh.
A Facebook account had originally posted that picture with a caption claiming that people were stuck inside a crowded supermarket in Phnom Penh because many had rushed there to buy Japanese-made mini air conditioners.
The Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Commissariat of Phnom Penh Municipal Police confirmed that the authorities are currently searching for the account holder who posted this false information to hold them responsible before the law.
