PM Calls for a Momentous Celebration of the 24th National Day of Persons with Disabilities

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has asked the ministries and relevant institutes to organize a momentous celebration for the 24th National and the 40th International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

In a circular, dated 29 November 2022, on the appointment of the 24th National Day and the 40th International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered public and private media to spread the word about the history of the National Day of Persons with Disabilities in Cambodia, and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Furthermore, all ministries and state institutions, both national and subnational, as well as public and private educational institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), must organize events and entertainment activities for persons with disabilities in accordance with the necessary health measures in response to the current situation of Covid-19.

Prime Minister Hun Sen also ordered the Disability Action Council, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Persons with Disabilities Foundation, National Committee for Organizing National and International Festivals, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration, and other relevant institutions to co-organize this national celebration and other entertainment programs for the persons with disabilities in Phnom Penh.

To celebrate the day, some banners will also be prepared, with slogans such as: "Congratulations on the 24th National Day and the 40th International Day of Persons with Disabilities"; "Not All Disabilities Are Visible"; "Please call me by my name instead of my disability"; "Eliminate barriers to increase opportunities for persons with disabilities"; "Stop all forms of exploitation of persons with disabilities" and "Disability is the diversity of humanity."

It should be noted that the 24th National Day and the 40th International Day of Persons with Disabilities will be held on 3 December 2022, under the theme "Not All Disabilities Are Visible."
