Grassroots Democratic Party Leader to Defect and Join CPP

PHNOM PENH: The Phnom Penh Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Grassroots Democratic Party, Yang Saing Koma, has asked to join the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) from 2 December.

Giving his reasons for choosing to defect from the Grassroots Democratic Party and join the CPP, Yang Saing Koma highlighted Prime Minister Hun Sen’s agricultural policy in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister himself.

“Recent announcements include policies to improve farmers' livelihoods with practical measures, such as policies to produce seeds for sale at affordable prices, policies to reduce production costs, policies to increase capital to the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank, and policies solve problems in the agricultural market," he wrote. "I am confident that the introduction of these new realistic policies will bring real benefits to all people. These policies are the same as my existing knowledge, skills, and work experience in agriculture.”

Yang Saing Koma said he hopes that after joining the CPP, he will have the opportunity to participate in the implementation of these policies successfully and fruitfully in order to improve the lives of farmers, food security, the environment and the national economy.

"I propose to join the Cambodian People's Party on 2 December 2022," he said.
