European Company Wants to Invest in Cable Car Transport in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: European company, Doppelmayr Gruppe, intends to invest in the construction of cable cars for public transport in urban areas and other tourist attractions in Cambodia, with the goal of reducing traffic congestion and improving people's lives.

This project was mentioned by Peter Vogelmann, the Director of International Sales and Representative of Doppelmayr Gruppe, during a meeting with Secretary of State Touch Chankosal, Representative of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, on Wednesday, 23 November 2022.

The Doppelmayr Gruppe representative also stated that the company has been implementing this cable car project in many other countries in the world, both in Asia and Europe.

According to Vogelmann, the company is looking into the potential of transitioning Phnom Penh's transportation system into one that is ecologically friendly and sustainable.

Secretary of State Touch Chankosal expressed interest in the project put forth by Doppelmayr Gruppe because Cambodia has been working to find partners for the development of the transportation sector, in order to lessen traffic congestion and enhance the quality of life for urban residents.

"The trend of using public transport in Phnom Penh is still limited, but the Ministry is still striving to spread awareness of its benefits among citizens," said the Secretary of State. "I strongly hope that in the future, everyone will adopt a new way of thinking and start using public transportation more and more."
