Ministry of Posts Encourages Content Creators to Participate in Video Contest

PHNOM PENH: After YouTube reinstated monetization for content creators in Cambodia this year, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has encouraged all content creators to participate in the 'Digital Education Video Contest' under the ‘Go Digital Cambodia’ initiative, which will end on 30 November 2022.

YouTube previously suspended monetization for content creators in Cambodia in 2021, and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications had been working with the company to try and find a solution.

Through the efforts of the Ministry, YouTube officially launched the 'YouTube Partner Program' in Cambodia, once again allowing Cambodian video content producers to earn money and access key features and resources on the platform.

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has also partnered with Google and YouTube to organize a workshop on becoming ‘Professional YouTubers’ with expert speakers from Google and YouTube and well-known content producers from abroad sharing their experiences with content creators in Cambodia, in order to encourage them to produce more useful video content for viewers, especially to promote the production of creative video content not plagiarized from others.

The Ministry has stated that it will continue to work with YouTube and other online video companies to provide training programs for content producers, as it has done in the past, in order to strengthen the ability to produce good and innovative content in accordance with the proprietary principle, and which will also be beneficial to the public. Educational content, entertainment, digital technology, business and innovation all contribute to the economic and social development of a digital Cambodia.

The Ministry encourages all content creators to participate in Go Digital Cambodia’s ‘Digital Education Video Contest,’ which has two main thematic categories: "One Day in the Digital World" and "Security Features and Tips for Keeping Your Facebook Account Safe."

The first place winner will receive 4 million riel, second place will receive 2 million riel and third place will receive 1 million riel. The Ministry began accepting video contest entries from 25 October and will continue to do so until the deadline on 30 November 2022.
